I am a multidisciplinary artist, naturalist, and educator based in Boise, Idaho. My work bridges science and creativity, informed by my background in biology and teaching, as well as my deep connection to the ecosystems I explore. I create through two primary modes: multimedia paintings that examine the relationships between plants, animals, and their environments, and traditional and digital illustrations that highlight the magic of small, everyday moments—often with humor expressed through anthropomorphized animals.
My practice moves between the field and studio. My paintings develop through layered color and texture, evoking the richness and complexity of ethereal as well as colorful flora and fauna scenes. Alongside these works, I maintain a sketch-based practice using watercolor, ink, and pencil, often created en plein air, as well as digital illustration. For the latter, I utilize Procreate with the goal of enjoying the versatility of the program but creating artwork that looks traditionally made. These studies serve as both my life’s journal and artistic expression, capturing fleeting moments that inform my larger compositions.
I approach art as a form of inquiry. Rooted in my experience as a science teacher, my process begins with close observation of species in their habitats and expands through research and storytelling, including engagement with local communities due to my love of working with people. This integration of fieldwork and narrative reflects my belief that art can embody both precision and wonder.
Through my practice, I aim to foster appreciation and stewardship of the natural world while celebrating the small, meaningful moments that shape our lives.
